Pamela's Early Days in Her Lifelong Commitment to the Arthritis Foundation

Strategic Mission

This fund seeks to generate the hard working capital required to enable the AF to build dynamic, online, interactive education and self-help tools -- live action scripts and professionally produced videos (guided and self-help). Such tools will enable (1) patients to learn the many ways they can take control of and improve the quality of their lives as they live with their arthritis and (2) allied health professionals to work with patients in a wide range of community settings. It takes REAL MONEY to add this outreach dimension to AF patient programming.

Staged Effort

Stage I of this effort focuses on raising $20,000 as the seed money required for a larger sustained Stage 2 fundraising effort. At the completion of Stage 1 of this drive, Pamela will double the value of your donations in the hope of driving us all to a timely and impactful completion of this first stage of the effort. 

Stage 2 will rely on Stage 1 funds for an initial set of demonstration materials, e.g.,:

• Short videos with physical therapists that help instruct individuals living with arthritis on how to adapt and maintain their mobility
• Self-guided live action and video tools and resources for people who are looking for ways to better manage their pain without more drugs (with a particular emphasis on people with osteoarthritis)

These will serve as a critical component in an organized campaign to raise to a critical mass of the capital required to move the AF boldly into interactive online tools and to partner with various allied health organizations for the construction and use of these tools for the benefit of the millions of live with arthritis.

Remembering Pamela's Lifetime Achievement Award

The Charles B. Harding Award is the highest and most coveted award the Arthritis Foundation gives annually. It is the Distinguished Service award that honors the organization's Volunteer of the Year. Pamela won this award in 2011 for her lifetime body of work in Arthritis. This is the video that was played at the heart of the award ceremony in December 2011 at the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel in Hollywood. It provides a little insight into the human side of her.

The Pamela Massey Patient Partner Award

In 2019 the Arthritis Foundation established a major new national award to honor annually an outstanding health care provider whose work has improved patient lives through extended partnership with the Arthritis Foundation. The Patient Partner Resources Fund is designed to support and give power to those who would aspire to this lifetime achievement award.
